The Erica Synths Black Low-Pass VCF is a high-quality, no-nonsense analog filter designed for the discerning modular synthesist who values pure, powerful, and characterful sound. This Eurorack module delivers a classic 24dB/octave low-pass filter with a sound that is both rich and musical, making it a versatile tool for a wide range of sound-sculpting applications. From smooth and subtle filtering to aggressive and resonant sweeps, the Black Low-Pass VCF provides the sonic authority and hands-on control that are essential for creative synthesis.
At the heart of the Black Low-Pass VCF is its all-analog signal path, which is engineered to provide a warm and organic filtering experience. The 24dB/octave slope is a classic choice for subtractive synthesis, offering a steep and defined cutoff that is perfect for shaping the harmonic content of your audio signals. The large Cutoff knob provides a smooth and tactile feel, allowing for precise control over the filter's frequency. The Resonance control adds a peak at the cutoff frequency, which can be used to create everything from subtle emphasis to screaming self-oscillation. When pushed into self-oscillation, the filter produces a clean and stable sine wave, which can be used as an additional oscillator in your system. A key feature of the Black Low-Pass VCF is its built-in, post-filter overdrive circuit. This allows you to add a layer of analog saturation and grit to the filtered signal, which can range from subtle warmth to full-on distortion. The drive amount is user-adjustable via a trimmer on the back of the module, so you can tailor the character of the overdrive to your personal taste. The module also features extensive CV control, with two inputs for the cutoff frequency (one with an attenuverter) and one for the resonance, allowing for a wide range of dynamic and expressive modulation possibilities.
