Black LPG Analog

The Erica Synths Black LPG is a modern and innovative take on the classic Low-Pass Gate (LPG) concept, a circuit that has been a cornerstone of West Coast synthesis for decades. This all-analog Eurorack module combines a second-order low-pass filter and a VCA into a single, cohesive unit, using vactrols to achieve the characteristically smooth and organic response that LPGs are known for. The Black LPG is designed to be a versatile and expressive tool for shaping sounds, allowing for everything from percussive plucks and subtle filtering to more complex and evolving textures.

The core of the Black LPG is its vactrol-based design. Vactrols, which are a combination of an LED and a photoresistor, have a naturally slow and non-linear response, which gives the LPG its unique and musical character. The module features a mode switch that allows you to select between three different operational modes: VCF (Voltage-Controlled Filter), VCF+VCA (a combination of both), and VCA (Voltage-Controlled Amplifier). This flexibility makes the Black LPG a highly versatile module that can perform a variety of functions in a modular patch. In addition to its core LPG functionality, the module includes a built-in decay envelope generator. This envelope is hardwired to the LPG, allowing you to create classic percussive "plink" and "plonk" sounds with ease. The decay time can be controlled manually and with CV, and the envelope also has its own dedicated output, so it can be used to modulate other modules in your system. The Black LPG also features a resonance control with a switchable overdrive, which can add a touch of grit and aggression to the sound.
