The Erica Synths Black VCO V2 is a high-precision, all-analog voltage-controlled oscillator that serves as a powerful and versatile core sound source for any Eurorack modular system. Engineered for stability and a rich harmonic character, the Black VCO V2 is designed to meet the demands of discerning sound designers and musicians who require a reliable and feature-packed oscillator. This module goes beyond the basics, offering a suite of integrated features that allow for complex and evolving soundscapes without the need for extensive external modulation sources. Its robust construction and clear layout make it an intuitive and inspiring tool for both studio production and live performance, capable of producing everything from classic analog basses and leads to intricate and experimental textures.
At the heart of the Black VCO V2 is its highly stable and accurate analog core, providing pristine tracking across an impressive eight-octave range. The module offers four simultaneous waveform outputs: sine, triangle, saw, and pulse, giving you a diverse palette of fundamental tones to build upon. A standout feature is the transistor-based -1 octave suboscillator, which produces a distinct and musically pleasing rounded square wave, a significant departure from the harsher sound of typical logic-based suboscillators. The module also includes a built-in saw waveshaper with both manual and CV control, allowing you to add extra harmonic content and grit to the sawtooth waveform. Further sonic sculpting is available through the manually adjustable and CV-controllable pulse width modulation (PWM). For dynamic timbral changes, the Black VCO V2 features an exponential/linear FM input with a dedicated attenuator, a synchronization input for locking to other oscillators, and two built-in modulation LFOs, making it a semi-modular voice within a single module. The addition of the optional Black VCO Expander module further enhances its capabilities by adding waveform mixing and additional sub-octaves.
