Over his long career, multi-platinum award-winning Super Producer / Engineer David Bendeth has developed an amazing workflow to blend multiple reverbs applied to a channel or a bus for a layered and nuanced sound.
What happens when you take that workflow and wrap it around a custom reverb engine that provides the key reverb patches that he has dialed in and used on the classic recordings he is known for?
You get DBVerb.
DBVerb replicates 12 of David's favorite reverb patches.
The plug-in also implements his signature workflow for dialing in the perfect reverb by putting 4 different reverbs in parallel, each with a dedicated fader to allow you to quickly blend the contribution of each verb into the overall response.
It is fast and fun to use and allows you to dial in a perfect reverb sound without spending hours scrolling through patches and parameters. It is easy to get a great sound, and virtually impossible to create a bad setting.
Each reverb strip allows you to select from 3 different reverb patches.
Solo and Cut controls on each strip allow you to easily audition the individual contributions without changing the balances.
The plug-in also includes post-reverb High Pass Filter and High Shelf EQ, and an overall pre-delay control, which allows you to increase or decrease the pre-delay of the reverb relative to David's settings.
The integrated gain compensated Wet/Dry control lets you dial the perfect blend of the direct and reverb sound, or simply set the plug-in to 100% wet for use on an aux fader in your mix.
Finally, each reverb strip also includes a length control that shortens the reverb tail for the associated reverb - allowing you to dry up the verb, if needed, or even dial in a fantastic gated reverb sound, without suffering any chattering or level dependent effects.
DBVerb was originally going to be one reverb. As we worked on it, lights went off instantly, and we decided to expand this to something everyone could benefit from: a multi-purpose combination of reverbs on four faders based on my workflow of blending reverbs together.
This combination had been on my console for many years, and we thought it would be a great concept to have them all in one place with easy access to the settings that I have used on my biggest records.
Combining these reverbs would allow multiple ideas for recording and mixing without scrolling for hours through many reverb options.
We added EQ controls to add flexibility for your workflow. This includes a high shelf with three frequency options and a high-pass filter for cleaning up the low end of the reverb tails.
We also included a length control so you can fine-tune the reverbs to your song, and if you turn it down it will turn any of the reverbs into a gated setting.
Working with Metric Halo and Make Believe on this plug-in was a real adventure, as we continued to see the many options available. I believe this plug-in is a real step forward with many applications for your next production or mix.
I cannot wait to hear all your ideas, as you create the great music of tomorrow.
