Dicky Deegan's Uilleann Pipes

Dicky Deegan's Uilleann Pipes is designed for keyboard performance while retaining the behaviour and playing techniques of the acoustic instrument.

The library includes two fully sampled chanters with true legato, a complete set of regulators including the bass regulator, and three drone pipes.

The drones can be controlled using latching keyswitches to replicate the behaviour of the acoustic instrument, or played directly from the keyboard.

Chanter

The chanter is the primary melodic pipe. Two instruments are included, pitched in D and C, and mapped across the upper keyboard range. Legato transitions are triggered by overlapping notes, while the retrigger mode supports ornaments and repeated articulations without reattacking the note. A dedicated glissando controller (CC64 by default) produces formant-correct pitch transitions. Velocity controls whether notes are sampled as played on or off the knee, and the pitch wheel provides continuous pitch adjustment.

Regulators

The regulators provide harmonic accompaniment. Since each regulator pipe is monophonic, wide triads produce the most authentic voicings. Where the acoustic instrument permits the same pitch to be played on different regulator pipes, these alternative fingerings have been sampled separately and assigned to different velocity layers.

Drones

The three drone pipes can be enabled or disabled independently using velocity-sensitive latching keyswitches. A velocity below 64 enables the selected drone, while a velocity above 64 disables it. This reduces the risk of unintended state changes during MIDI playback. Latching can be disabled from the interface, allowing the drones to be played directly if required.
