Doobie – Dub Suite

Not another delay clone.

Doobie is a creative delay workstation built for dub, ambient, experimental sound design and modern production. At its core is a multi-head tape echo, surrounded by analog coloration, modulation, advanced reverb, pitch processing and performance features designed for creating evolving spaces rather than simple repeats.

Four-Head Tape Echo

A virtual tape loop feeds four independent playback heads, each with its own:

• Level.
• Pan.
• Delay Time.
• ±200 ms Micro Offset for Haas-style stereo timing.

Each head can be enabled or disabled independently using the four-head matrix, allowing everything from classic Space Echo patterns to entirely new rhythmic combinations.

In Sync mode every head snaps to musical divisions from 1/32 up to 1/1. In Free mode, timing becomes continuously variable for organic delay times. Switching heads is completely click-free thanks to smooth level ramping.

Five Delay Characters

• Digital — pristine modern repeats.
• Tape — saturation, wow & flutter and authentic tape compression.
• BBD — dark analog bucket brigade coloration.
• Diffuse — progressively blurred echoes that melt into ambience.
• Pitch — every repeat shifts by a selectable interval from -24 to +24 semitones, with independent bypass for instant A/B comparison.

MIDI-Controlled Pitch Processing

Pitch mode and Shimmer reverb can be played directly from a MIDI keyboard:

• C3 = Unison.
• C4 = +12 Semitones.
• Full chromatic mapping.
• Pitch Bend (±2 semitones).
• Optional Portamento up to 2000 ms.

Doobie registers as an AU MusicEffect, allowing proper MIDI routing in compatible hosts.

Free or Tempo-Synced Timing

Choose between:

• 20 ms – 8 second free delay time.
• Host-synced divisions from 1/64 notes up to 4 bars.
• Dotted and triplet values.

The internal tape buffer extends to 16 seconds, making extremely long ambient repeats possible. Delay-time changes glide smoothly like a real tape machine rather than jumping abruptly.

Analog Tape Behaviour

Doobie doesn't simply repeat audio—it ages it.

The AGE control gradually introduces:

• Tape Saturation.
• Wow & Flutter.
• Random Transport Drift.
• Tape Hiss.
• High Frequency Loss.
• Level Dropouts.
• Increasing Instability Across Repeats.

The result ranges from pristine studio tape to beautifully worn vintage machines.

Dual Tone Shaping

Input Filter

Shapes only the signal entering the delay:

• Low Cut.
• High Cut.
• Bass.
• Treble.

The dry signal remains untouched.

Feedback Filter

Processes only the feedback path:

• Low Cut.
• High Cut.
• Bass.
• Treble.

Each repeat becomes progressively darker and softer just like a classic tape echo.

Resonant Multimode Filter

Before the delay sits a resonant TPT State Variable Filter featuring:

• Low-Pass.
• High-Pass.
• Band-Pass.
• Cutoff.
• Resonance.

Create classic filter sweeps, resonant dub effects or sculpt exactly what enters the tape.

Six-Stage Analog Phaser

• Rate.

Placing the phaser inside the feedback path creates evolving flange-like textures that become richer with every repeat.

Disable the delay engine while keeping all coloration active. The signal still passes through:

Perfect for using Doobie as an analog colour processor or tape-style saturator.

Intelligent Output Protection

A transparent two-stage output leveler keeps runaway feedback under control:

• Slow LA-2A-style program-dependent gain reduction.

The result preserves dynamics while preventing feedback overload during live performance. Enabled by default with instant bypass.
