The Make Noise DPO (Dual Prismatic Oscillator) is a formidable analog sound source and a cornerstone of "West Coast" synthesis philosophy in the Eurorack format. It is not merely two independent oscillators in one module, but a deeply integrated complex oscillator designed for generating harmonically rich and dynamically evolving timbres through internal modulation. The DPO encourages exploration of frequency modulation (FM), waveshaping, and amplitude modulation to create sounds that are organic, metallic, percussive, and everything in between, often from a single, cohesive unit.
The module is built around two voltage-controlled oscillators, VCO A (the Primary) and VCO B (the Modulator). While VCO B can be used as a standard audio-rate oscillator, its main purpose is to modulate VCO A through a dedicated internal modulation bus. This bus allows for switchable linear and exponential FM, with the amount controlled by the dedicated Mod Index. VCO A features classic Sine, Triangle, Saw, and Square wave outputs. The real magic, however, lies in its advanced waveshaping capabilities. It includes a wavefolder on the sine wave, a unique SHAPE control that transitions from sine to spike/saw waves, and the "Final" output which employs a two-stage analog waveshaping circuit controlled by FOLD and ANGLE parameters. With extensive CV control over nearly every parameter, including the internal modulation routing, the DPO is an endlessly deep and rewarding instrument for sonic exploration.
