The Donner Essential B1 is an analog bass synthesizer and sequencer that pays homage to the legendary acid bassline sounds, most notably inspired by the iconic Roland TB-303. At its heart, the B1 features a meticulously crafted purely analog signal path. This includes a single Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) with switchable sawtooth and square waveforms, coupled with a resonant low-pass Voltage Controlled Filter (VCF). This minimalist yet powerful architecture is crucial for generating the characteristic "squelchy" and "chirpy" acid sounds that have defined electronic music genres for decades. To further sculpt its sonic possibilities, the B1 integrates built-in analog effects: a versatile saturation circuit with dedicated Drive and Tone controls for adding grit and warmth, and a tape delay emulation offering Level, Time, and Feedback parameters for creating expansive spaces and rhythmic echoes. These effects are strategically placed at the end of the signal path, ensuring they enhance the core analog sound without compromising its integrity.

The sequencing capabilities are a cornerstone of the B1's design. It incorporates a 16-step sequencer with a 26-note silicone tactile keyboard and color-changing backlights, providing clear visual feedback and making live performance and step editing more accessible. The sequencer comes pre-loaded with 128 factory presets spanning various musical styles and offers an equal number of 128 user-programmable slots for saving custom patterns. A significant firmware update (V1.1.0) introduced "Song Mode," a highly anticipated feature that allows users to seamlessly chain up to 16 patterns to create longer, more intricate musical phrases, effectively extending the sequence length from 16 to an impressive 256 steps. The B1 also includes an 8-mode arpeggiator with a hold function, further expanding its creative potential for crafting dynamic basslines and rhythmic textures.
