Automatic Multi-Mic Alignment, Phase EQ & Gate — all three from one cross-instance session analysis.
Record anything with more than one microphone — a drum kit, a guitar cab, a bass DI and
amp — and the mics start fighting each other. The signals arrive at slightly different
times, comb-filtering creeps in, and the sound goes thin the moment you push the faders up
together.
faSmartAlign fixes that automatically. Load one instance per mic track; it reads the track
name, detects the instrument, and groups the mics by category on its own. Hit Align and it
solves time and polarity for every mic in the group at once — the whole kit together,
not one track at a time, the way it was actually recorded.
Three tools, one analysis:
- Alignment — sample-accurate time alignment and polarity correction for every mic in
the group. Four modes per instance: Balanced, Transient, Energy, and Wide Stereo.
- Phase EQ — allpass-based phase correction layered on top of time alignment, to fix
the frequency-dependent phase error a delay correction alone can't catch.
- Gate — thresholds derived from the actual cross-instance bleed measured in your
session, not from factory presets. Release scales with each hit's energy and decay.
Overheads, rooms, and hi-hats auto-bypass where gating rarely makes sense.
ARA2 (VST3): on Studio One, Cubase, Nuendo, and Reaper, faSmartAlign reads your
existing audio regions directly — no playback capture pass. On every other DAW a short
playback recording replaces that step and alignment quality is identical.
Everything runs in real time, stays non-destructive, and saves with your session.
One-time purchase, no subscription. Free demo — full quality, no time limit, no registration.
