Fogbank

Fogbank is a free expander and multiplier designed for dynamic sound design available for Windows, MacOS, and Linux. Input audio is duplicated up to 16 times, run through a series of customizable effects, and then recombined. Parameter values between each of the duplicated voices can be adjusted and modulated per voice using Fogbank's unique polyphonic modulation scheme. The result is a collection of unique but cohesive duplicated sounds that can add lush depth and inidividuality to any sound.

Monophonic Modulators

Adding character in Fogbank begins with the monophonic modulators: six LFOs and four macro sliders. Each LFO can be set to one of six shapes: Sine, cosine, bounce, square, saw, and triangle. Their rate can be set in hertz or musical notes. Additionally, every continuous parameter of the LFO modulator can be modulated by an other LFO or by a macro slider. Chaining together modulations is a great way to add a natural chaotic qualities and complexity to your sound.

Polyphonic Modulators

Fogbank features six polyphonic modulators. In the UI, they take the form of three side by side vector spaces represented by point visualizers. The X and Y component of each point in the visualizer can be applied to any of the effect parameters. These work exactly the same as monophonic modulations, but each point is applied as a modulation value to one of the plugin's voices. This means that every single voice's effect chain is unique.

Each of the three vector spaces begins with an initial shape. From there a series of up to four transformations are applied to the points. Each of these transforms has the power to adjust the points in extreme or subtle ways. Most importantly, the transform's parameters can be modulated by any of the monophonic modulators. This is where Fogbank's sound design workflow gets interesting and exciting. The movement of each shape in concert with the output sound makes for an intuitive sound design tool.

Effects

Create your effect processing chain by setting each of the effects slots from left to right with your desired effects. Each of the three slots can be set to any of the available effects types: An allpass filter, volume and panning utility, delay, diffuser, distortion, and classic filter.

What sets these effects apart from other similar plugins is Fogbank's ability to set individual values per voice. It lets you control exactly how each individual aspect of your sound works. From wide and meandering to stripped down and frail, anything is possible.
