FreePlayer allows you to control effects by the motion of the guitar itself – fluidly and in real time. The first FreePlayer product – FreePlayer Express – allows you to control any MIDI-capable effect directly, or VST plug-ins via the supplied software. Just attach the FreePlayer to your guitar and connect via USB.
FreePlayer Express is a universal kit which can be attached to pretty much any guitar or bass, and connects to the outside world via USB (a wireless add-on is on the way). The Express contains a highly sensitive motion sensor which can be used to control pretty much any kind of effect, from simply merging in a delay or reverb through to '3-D – Wah' filter effects, or even the kind of wild pitch-based effects that are possible with Saltline Audio Solutions' 'Son of a Pitch' (bundled with FreePlayer). The Express hardware is rounded off with a tactile button array and a set of status LEDs.
Each FreePlayer unit comes with a USB cable, the FreePlayer software, and is bundled with VST plug-ins from Saltline Audio Solutions, Voxengo, MeldaProduction, NDC and FrettedSynthAudio.
Users will be able to download more VST plug-ins and sounds from the FreePlayer SoundStore, including Saltline Audio Solution's previously announced range of plug-ins developed specifically for FreePlayer.
Looks like Freeplayer went out of business without a peep sometime in late 2011, just before I was going to get one. Back to my original plan of cannibalizing a wiimote and attacching it to the end of the neck or something. I wondered how responsive these were. The videos sounded really interesting. My two holdups were that it would have meant another cord out of my synth guitar, which would have made 4. bluetooth would have been so easy too. the second was that it really should have had an OSC option as well as midi. would have opened up the possibilities alot. Oh well, RIP not so free Freeplayer
