Groovemate LATIGO

LATIGO is a dedicated Latin American percussion instrument for its Virtual Percussionist series. Designed to provide authentic rhythms and grooves, the instrument features a comprehensive collection of performances played by professional percussionists, focused specifically on the nuance and timing found in South American and Caribbean music traditions.

Unlike static MIDI loops, LATIGO utilizes UJAM's proprietary performance engine, allowing users to manipulate the intensity, feel, and timing of the percussion in real-time. The library covers a wide range of traditional styles including Salsa, Merengue, Bolero, and Afro-Cuban rhythms.

Technical Architecture and Control

The instrument is divided into two primary sections: the Performance section and the Micro-Timing section. The Performance section allows for the triggering of 20 different styles, each containing multiple phrases (Intro, Verse, Chorus, Fill, and Ending). The Micro-Timing section provides granular control over the "swing" and "push/pull" of the performance, enabling the percussion to sit correctly within various pocket depths of a production.

For sound shaping, the instrument includes a "Character" knob that cycles through processed signal chains—ranging from clean and transparent to saturated and lo-fi—and a "Global Mix" section with integrated reverb and compression optimized for percussive transients.
