The Erica Synths Hexinverter VCNO is a unique and versatile noise oscillator for the Eurorack format. While it is capable of producing full-spectrum white noise, its capabilities extend far beyond those of a standard noise generator. The VCNO is designed to be used like a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), with pitch modulation over CV and multiple simultaneous outputs, each offering a distinct sonic character. This makes it a powerful tool for creating a wide range of random signals, textures, and percussive sounds.
The VCNO's main output provides classic white noise when the pitch control is at its maximum, but as you turn the pitch down, the noise becomes crunchier and more granular, reminiscent of vintage video game sound effects. In addition to the main noise output, the VCNO features several other outputs that provide unique flavors of noise. The GATE output produces random triggers, perfect for adding unpredictability to your patches. The SCREECH output has a dark, howling overtone, while the SIZZLE output can be adjusted from white noise to a vinyl-like crackle. The TEAR output sounds as if the noise generator is breaking apart. All of these outputs are affected by the pitch control and CV input, and they all work simultaneously.
With its clock input, the VCNO can be synchronized to your system's clock, allowing you to create pseudo-random rhythmic patterns.
