Kensal Drums

The studio was a large room with the console in the room, in 2015 the building was sold off and turned into flats, as so many creative spaces are in London are. I recorded these samples in the Summer before that.

The kit itself is a 1970s Hayman 13, 16, 22 with a Ludwig 400 snare - I love those old Haymans. Great drums.

Mics used include: Neumann Fet u47, Neumann KM84i, Coles 4038, Sennheiser MD441 and a a late 70s Hondo with microphonic pickups.

I then processed these - through a Korg Ms 20 (2 ways - overdriven & driving the filter). This instrument can go from clean to gritty and anything in between. Useful for layers, reinforcing or realistic programming.
