Kinetic Toys

Kinetic Toys is an imaginative and unconventional virtual instrument that fuses the sounds of vintage children's toys with powerful synthesized tones. Developed in collaboration with sound designer Jeremiah Savage, the library is a fantastical sound playground that allows for the creation of unique, evocative leads, ethereal sound beds, quirky rhythms, and experimental effects. It's an instrument designed not just for musical notes but for building entire soundscapes that border on the real and the imaginary.

The instrument's core concept revolves around the idea of turning non-musical objects into playable, dynamic sounds. Jeremiah Savage meticulously recorded over 200 vintage toys, from a clockwork robot and a toy train to a pinball machine and a toy piano. These raw, often nostalgic sounds form the foundation of the library. Each sampled sound is then layered with a custom-designed synth tone, allowing for a creative interplay between organic textures and synthetic harmonics.

The truly innovative aspect of KINETIC TOYS is its one-of-a-kind user interface. Central to the design are two X-Y controllers, visually represented as a ballerina and a robot in a whimsical, toy-filled room. The ballerina controls the "Sound Scene," allowing you to morph seamlessly between the toy and synth layers of a sound. Meanwhile, the robot controls the "Effects Scene," modulating various processors to add dimension and character. This dynamic, playful interface encourages intuitive experimentation and allows for the creation of an endless variety of evolving sounds that are truly unique.

Features:

  • Unique Sound Sources: Based on over 200 individually recorded vintage toy instruments and objects, including toy pianos, pinball machines, music boxes, train sets, and more.
  • Dual Sound Engine: Fuses the character of the sampled toy sounds with a custom-designed synth layer for rich, hybrid tones.
  • Dynamic X-Y Controls: Features a unique, fun-to-use interface with a ballerina and robot that control the morphing between sound sources and effects scenes.
  • Extensive Presets: Includes 35 themed sound sets and over 600 snapshots, offering a massive starting point for creative exploration.
  • Built-in Effects: Comes with a comprehensive suite of onboard effects, including resonant filters, delays, bitcrushers, distortion, and more, all controllable via the X-Y interface.
  • Modulation Sources: Two assignable envelopes and two LFOs provide further control over sound parameters.
  • NKS-Ready: Full integration with Komplete Kontrol S-Series keyboards and Maschine for a streamlined hardware-software workflow.
  • Light on Resources: The library has a modest size of 3.8GB, making it efficient for use in your DAW.
  • Requires Kontakt: Runs in the free Kontakt Player or the full version of Kontakt.
