KLANG 8008

NIVIEM KLANG 8008 is an emulation of the Bode Sound Co. Model 8101 Barberpole-Phaser — Harald Bode's 1981 design. Its defining trick: the comb-filter notches appear to rise, or fall, endlessly — never reversing. It is the audio equivalent of a barber-pole's spiralling stripes, a Shepard-tone illusion you cannot get from a conventional phaser.

KLANG 8008 builds the illusion on true Single-Sideband frequency shifting through a 12-pole Dome filter (a Hilbert transformer) — the same method Harald Bode pioneered with his frequency shifters. Six modes run off one engine: Up & Down, Barberpole Up, Down, Freeze, Flip, and Rotary — and a Leslie-style ROVER rotary stage works on top of all of them. Everything you hear in this demo is a single sustained synth pad running through KLANG 8008 alone, no other processing.
