The Korg multi/poly represents Korg's latest leap in analog modeling synthesis. Drawing inspiration from the legendary Korg Mono/Poly, this instrument transcends its namesake by offering vastly expanded polyphony and a deeply integrated sound engine. It skillfully blends the warmth and character of vintage analog synthesis with the immense flexibility and power of modern digital technology, making it a formidable tool for contemporary music production and live performance.
At its core, the multi/poly features a highly advanced analog modeling engine that meticulously recreates the nuances of classic hardware. This goes beyond traditional virtual analog by modeling individual "Virtual Voice Cards," where oscillators, filters, envelopes, LFOs, and portamento circuits exhibit subtle component variations, just like real analog synthesizers. This imbues each voice with a unique character, contributing to a naturally rich and evolving sound. Furthermore, the multi/poly's envelopes and VCAs are modeled after iconic Korg and other classic synths (Mono/Poly, MS-20, "Mini," "Pro," ARP Odyssey, and Prophet 5), providing authentic response curves that are crucial for vintage tones.
The multi/poly's extensive sound design capabilities are built around four layers per program, each capable of hosting a complete voice architecture. This allows for incredibly complex and layered sounds, as well as dynamic keyboard and velocity splits. The instrument offers three distinct oscillator types: Classic, Digital Wavetable, and Waveshaper, providing a broad sonic palette from traditional analog waveforms to aggressive digital textures and West-Coast inspired harmonics. Complementing these oscillators are newly redesigned filters, including emulations of Korg's own Mono/Poly filter, as well as ladder filters from other beloved analog synths. The instrument is further enhanced by Korg's innovative Kaoss Physics and Motion Sequencing 2.0, offering dynamic, generative modulation possibilities that can breathe unique life into patches.
