Mutant Brain

The Erica Synths Mutant Brain is the definitive central nervous system for integrating your Eurorack modular system with MIDI-based equipment. This powerful and compact MIDI-to-CV/Gate converter module, developed in collaboration with Hexinverter Électronique, is designed to be the core of any hybrid setup. It allows you to control your modular synthesizer with MIDI keyboards, sequencers, or a DAW, translating MIDI messages into the precise voltages your modules understand.

Despite its small 8HP footprint, the Mutant Brain is incredibly versatile, offering a total of 16 outputs that can be configured to your specific needs. It features four CV outputs (0-8V) and twelve Gate/Trigger outputs (0-5V). These outputs are not fixed; their function is determined by the patch you load onto the module. It can handle monophonic and polyphonic note data, velocity, aftertouch, MIDI CCs, and can be configured to output drum triggers, clock signals, and MIDI transport controls. This flexibility makes it ideal for everything from playing polyphonic patches with a MIDI keyboard to sequencing complex drum patterns from an external drum machine or DAW.

Configuration is handled via the intuitive "Mutant Brain Surgery" web application, which allows you to easily assign functions to each output and then upload the configuration to the module via a MIDI SysEx file. This approach means you can create and save multiple presets for different live performance or studio scenarios.
