Origin Story

Obsidian Brass was born from the tension between force and fragility, the power of brass, refracted through stillness, space, and sonic decay.

Where traditional brass libraries lean into bravado and cinematic impact, we chose a different path: one that explores the evolving tonal edges of this instrument through a lens of erosion, emergence, and movement.

Working with organic brass recordings as our raw material, we sculpted textures that breathe and fracture, not through performance alone, but through the engine of transformation. Meredith Moore is a world-class French horn player whose rich, expressive tone has resonated from iconic stages to award-winning soundtracks. With an international career spanning classical, cinematic, and contemporary music, she brings an extraordinary depth of emotion and nuance to Obsidian Brass.

From principal horn with the Radio City Music Hall Orchestra and Hawaii Symphony, to performances with the London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, and New York City Ballet, Meredith's artistry is as versatile as it is profound. Her sound can be heard on major film scores (Thor, Brave), acclaimed recordings, and in live tours with artists like Josh Groban and has done session work with Mumford and Sons.

A passionate advocate for both modern and historical horns, Meredith blends precision with heart—capturing the subtleties of breath, resonance, and human connection. Her contributions to Obsidian Brass deliver a palette of textures and storytelling potential that elevate every composition.
