PitchGrid is a groundbreaking plugin for exploring microtonal music and alternative tuning systems.

If you're familiar with just intonation, with Entonal Studio or other tuning utilities, you might think of a scale or tuning as a fixed set of intervals. You might have felt overwhelmed by the maths required to understand the interval ratios, or cycled through countless tuning presets searching for the right sound.

PitchGrid turns this around. It's a tool that allows you to explore the space of musically useful tunings by turning a few dials.

Instead of starting with just intervals and tempering them for regularity, PitchGrid starts with regular scales and shows you which just intervals they approximate. Turn knobs to navigate tuning space. Watch the intervals shift on screen. Find what sounds good to you. The plugin handles the math; you follow your ears.

Explore by ear, not by theory

In a similar way to how you might explore timbre in a synthesizer by shaping the waveform, you can now do the same with musical scales themselves. No tuning theory knowledge required — just tweak and listen.

If you have a LinnStrument, Lumatone, Exquis, or Launchpad, the free PitchGrid Mapper lays out any scale so the geometry matches the music. Same finger patterns, different musical universes.
