Plena reimagines music creation by replacing the traditional timeline with a spatial canvas. Place sound objects in 2D/3D space and hear the result instantly. No tracks. No grid. Just sound in space.

Position Is Sound

Every object's spatial position directly controls its mix. Drag it and hear the change; in stereo mode, X pans, Y sweeps a spectral filter, and Z adjusts depth. Switch to binaural mode and you're working in full 3D with first-order ambisonics — azimuth, elevation, and distance per object, decoded through an HRTF binaural renderer for immersive headphone playback.

Motion Paths

Draw multi-point paths on the canvas and link any sound object to follow them. Set the traversal speed, direction (forward, reverse, or ping-pong), and loop behavior. Your objects move through space over time automating their spatial mix without touching a single automation lane.

Gravity

Objects exert gravitational pull on each other. Crank up an object's gravity strength and nearby objects respond; their parameters shift as the distance between them changes. Choose attract or repel per parameter. Gravity can modulate nearly everything: position, gain, playback rate, grain density, filter cutoff, FX parameters, even hosted plugin parameters. The result is an evolving, physics-driven modulation system unlike anything in a traditional DAW.

Three Sound Engines Per Object:

  • Audio File — Looping playback with variable speed (0.25x–4x) and loop regions.
  • Step Sequencer — Sample-based, up to 8 voices, configurable step count, forward/ping-pong/random modes, per-step pitch and envelope.
  • Granular Synthesis — Grain size, density (up to 64 simultaneous grains), position, spread, speed, pitch ratio, and multiple envelope shapes (Hann, triangle, Gaussian, rectangular).

Deep Modulation:

  • Per-parameter LFOs (sine, triangle, saw, square, sample & hold) with rate, depth, phase, and slew.
  • Axis binding — link any parameter to X/Y/Z axes for automatic spatial modulation.
  • Gravity and LFO modulation stack additively — layer them for complex, evolving textures.

Per-Object FX Chains

Built-in delay, reverb, chorus, and distortion, all with parameters exposed to LFO, gravity, and axis modulation. Full VST3/AU plugin hosting with parameter exposure so your plugins respond to space and gravity too.

Ambisonics & Binaural

First-order ambisonics encoding (4-channel ACN/SN3D B-format) with HRTF binaural decoding for accurate 3D spatial imaging over headphones. Per-object azimuth, elevation, and distance, all modulatable via LFO, gravity, axis binding, and motion paths. Toggle between stereo and binaural output at any time.

Multi-Space Composition

Create multiple independent spaces and arrange them on a timeline for full-length pieces. Crossfade seamlessly between spaces.

Musical Scale System

Built-in scale quantization with predefined and custom scales for pitched content.

Plena turns space into an endless canvas for audio exploration.
