REFLEX free is an "Ambience Generator" that is capable of generating huge spaces, short rooms, or chorus-like modulations through a cascade of regenerating delays. Its sound is a mixture of straight stereo delays followed by a dense cloud of reflections. It achieves a huge and spacey wideness with a decent amount of the two modulation sources.

  • Short reflections up to endless reverberation.
  • Delay/Reverb Modulation.
  • Two modulation shapes.
  • Lean GUI.
  • Low on CPU.

This is a great tool, low on CPU, no-nonsense GUI, makes it very easy to get into, and it delivers a great result.

Controls are so simple that they are almost self-explanatory. The big knob in the middle controls the Decay, goes without saying I guess as that function really is the heart of any reverb/echo unit.

The small knob satellites controls (clockwise from left) size, input, rate, depth, mix and damp (hi/lo)

The Rate and Depth functions moonlights as a LFO and can be tweaked to give a wobbly tremolo effect. A better title for the Damp section could maybe be filter, as it aids in filtering out either hi or lo frequencies.

All in all this freebie delivers a smooth result. Easily my choice of effect when I quickly need to apply reverb/space to a VST instrument.

I found it a bit difficult to dial in typical delay stuff with this. But what it does it does very well. I'm really looking out for its big brother, but that has so many features to be overwhelming. It's ok, coz there is a good demo of that too, but maybe something inbetween, as a freebie might bring the punters in.

That is extra work I know. Just a thought. But yeah you're right, this is a very nice little delay, albeit more like a doubler/chorus type of thing, than a standard longer delay type of effect. It is unique for sure.
