Resonator Spectrogram is an audio analysis and visualization plugin built for music production, sound design, and mix work.
Developed by Substrate Recordings, it uses a resonator-bank analysis approach instead of a conventional FFT display. The result is a tool designed not just to show sound, but to help you inspect spectral movement, tonal balance, density, and interaction over time in a way that is immediately useful while working.
The main spectrogram is supported by two focused inspection views: the Spectrum Graph for examining frequency content within a selected time window, and the Volume Graph for tracking how energy changes over time inside a selected frequency region.
Available as a 64-bit VST3 for Windows.
Featuring:
Spectrogram.
A resonator-bank spectrogram designed for production work, showing spectral energy over time with a more immediate and inspectable view than a standard analyzer.
Volume Graph.
Hold right click on the spectrogram to define the Volume Graph selection. It shows how energy rises and falls over time within the chosen frequency band or range.
Spectrum Graph.
Hold left click on the spectrogram to define the Spectrum Graph selection. It shows how energy is distributed across frequencies within the chosen moment or time window.
Graph Controls.
Hold Shift while making either selection to keep the graph view latched after releasing the mouse, so you can inspect it more closely.
Range Listen.
Audition the current frequency selection directly through the plugin output for more precise, ear-led analysis.
Sidechain Input.
Compare the main input against a sidechain signal in the Volume and Spectrum Graphs for layering, balance, and mix comparison.
MIDI Re-triggering + Harmonic Analysis.
Restart analyzer capture from MIDI re-triggers for repeatable sound design analysis and visual alignment. Resonator Spectrogram also includes harmonic analysis options, including harmonic mode and optional per-harmonic pitch tracking for inspecting moving partials more clearly.
Control Panel.
A separate window with deeper control over graph behavior, display settings, smoothing, freezing, re-triggering, and analysis options.
Who it's for.
Resonator Spectrogram is built for producers, sound designers, and mix engineers who want more than a standard analyzer. It is designed for inspecting spectral movement, comparing layers, monitoring frequency-specific energy, and understanding how sounds evolve over time.
