NIVIEM RM01 is a component-level emulation of the 1972 Oberheim RM-1B — Tom Oberheim's standalone ring modulator, built around the Motorola MC1495 four-quadrant analog multiplier. It is the metallic, clangorous, inharmonic voice of Stockhausen's Mantra, Herbie Hancock's Chameleon Rhodes, the BBC Dalek, and fifty years of sci-fi sound design.

Ring modulation multiplies your signal by a carrier oscillator: every tone in the input produces sum-and-difference sidebands that are not harmonically related to it — instant metallic, bell-like, robotic character. RM01 models the MC1495 Gilbert-cell multiplier with antiderivative-antialiased saturation, a drifting carrier oscillator with four waveforms, the RM-1B's linear squelch dynamics circuit, and a schematic-exact Hardware Accurate path. It also adds a true stereo mode the 1972 mono hardware never had — an independent slave carrier on the right channel with its own detune, drift and drive. Everything you hear in this demo is two sustained synth pads running through RM01 alone, no other processing.

INSIDE THE PLUGIN
• Motorola MC1495 four-quadrant multiplier model — Gilbert-cell tanh saturation with antiderivative antialiasing
• Carrier oscillator 0.1 Hz–10 kHz — Sine and Triangle waveforms, PolyBLEP/BLAMP bandlimited, Kahan-stable phase
• Sub-audio carrier = tremolo · mid carrier = clangorous inharmonic ring · high carrier = glassy shimmer
• 4 stereo modes — Dual Mono (authentic), True Stereo, Mid/Side, Mono
• Carrier 2 — an independent slave oscillator on the right channel, with Detune, Drift Mix, Drive Offset and Waveform divergence
• Linear Squelch — the RM-1B's envelope-gated dynamics circuit
• Vintage modelling — carrier/signal feedthrough (the NULL ADJUST trimmers), per-instance component variation, thermal frequency drift
• Hardware Accurate mode — the schematic-exact path: asymmetric saturation, zener-knee carrier, 1458 op-amp slew
• Pickup load simulation — restores the resonant LC peak a guitar loses recorded DI (Single Coil / Humbucker / P90)
• Pitch Pedal — an expression-pedal V/oct carrier sweep · host Tempo Sync
• Quality oversampling — Off / Eco / Standard / High / Ultra, up to 16x, click-free
• Musical note picker — set the carrier by note name, MIDI, Hz or guitar/bass tuning
• 35 factory presets across 11 categories · A/B compare · click-free transitions on every control
• Nivipedia — an in-plugin encyclopedia, 99 articles; right-click any control for "What is this?"
• Premium WebView UI — powder-coated rack chassis, photoreal milled-aluminium knobs.
