Few names in analog amp simulation have carved a legacy as enduring as Tech 21's SansAmp series.
Born in the early 1990s, the original SansAmp Classic pedal revolutionized direct recording and performance by offering guitarists and bassists the warmth and dynamics of a tube amp without the need for one. Its unique dip-switch configuration gave users precise control over gain structure, EQ character, and cabinet emulation in a compact and flexible format.
It was this very unit that Kurt Cobain famously used during the recording of "In Utero", sculpting aggressive guitar tones directly into the console. Around the same era, Tchad Blake began using the Classic pedal as a signature part of his drum recording chain, running kick mics through it to add punch, growl, and harmonic grit. That tone became one of his trademarks.
As demand grew, Tech 21 released the SansAmp PSA-1, a rackmount version of the Classic with full preset memory and expanded control. Its all-analog tone and recallable settings made it a go-to studio tool for synths, vocals, drums, and more.
Audiopunks and Tech 21 have come together to recreate both the SansAmp PSA-1 and the Classic pedal in plugin form. This collaboration brings the unmistakable SansAmp tone to your DAW, faithfully modeled from the original hardware units and expanded with modern features.
