After collecting many plugins, I became frustrated trying decipher the long list of vague names. I wanted to organize and label the products, but couldn't find a solution, so I created Scene Deck.

Scene Deck allows basic categorization, tagging, and searching of plugins so that you can fully utilize your collection. The Scene Deck database has fields for descriptions, tags, images, so that you can describe a plugin and how you would use it.

Beyond the basic cataloging, Scene Deck allows you to create "scenes", which are small queries that capture an idea using related plugins.

Example Scenes:

  • Dark Synthwave: Core synths, retro saturation, huge reverbs, tape delays, and final polish tools.
  • Guitar Ambient: Guitar amp sims, shimmer reverbs, granular delays, loopers, texture tools, and gentle mastering.
  • Breakbeat Lab: Drum samplers, transient tools, slicers, distortion, filters, and chaotic delay/modulation.
  • Vocal Production: Pitch correction, channel strips, de-essers, compressors, vocal delays, plates, and widening.
  • Cinematic Water Textures: Samplers, granular engines, evolving pads, spectral effects, soft reverbs, and movement tools.
  • Mastering Check: Limiters, meters, broad EQ, dynamic EQ, stereo imaging, and reference tools.
  • Bass Design: Sub synths, bass instruments, saturation, amp/cab tools, compression, and mono utilities.
  • Weird Machines: Glitch, granular, spectral, buffer, modulation, and happy-accident tools.

Using these scenes as building blocks, you can build "decks", which could sketch out the list of plugins for a complete idea.

Example Decks:

Neon Night Drive:

  1. Dark Synthwave.
  2. Bass Design.
  3. Vocal Production.
  4. Mastering Check.

Ambient Guitar Sketch:

  1. Guitar Ambient.
  2. Cinematic Water Textures.
  3. Weird Machines.
  4. Mastering Check.

Breakbeat Experiment:

  1. Breakbeat Lab.
  2. Bass Design.
  3. Weird Machines.
  4. Mastering Check.

Trailer Cue Starter:

  1. Cinematic Water Textures.
  2. Bass Design.
  3. Weird Machines.
  4. Mastering Check.

Workflow:

  • Scan Plugins.
  • Apply suggested categorizations (if you want).
  • Go through uncategorized plugins and sort them. This requires some work, but it will be worth it when you know what stuff is. Scene Deck allows customizable categories.
  • Organize plugins into scenes. Now that the hard work of categorization is done, use your creative side to organize plugins into sound-scenes that capture a mood or specific idea.
  • Use your scenes to browse and spark ideas or build complete decks of scenes.
  • When you want to use your ideas, export the results to the format that is most useful.

This is an incredible idea and the interface is pretty nice but it's useless to somebody like me who has ALL their plugins stored in non-standard locations. Is there a way to currently do so considering there's a weird option for changing your scan profile for OSes you're not even currently on?

Thanks, I believe it's not against the rules to tweak it for adding custom directories. I will verify that it's okay. The weird option is not useful now, but this app could be cross platform with some tweaking and this would be used to scan a mounted drive for another OS.
