Steps

The Behringer Steps is a highly versatile and deeply programmable modulation source for Eurorack, inspired by the acclaimed Mutable Instruments Stages. This module functions as a multi-stage function generator, allowing it to act as a complex envelope, a multi-step LFO, or a 4-step sequencer. Its flexibility makes it a creative powerhouse for generating intricate and evolving control voltages that can animate any aspect of your patch, from filter sweeps and VCAs to oscillator pitch and waveshaping. It's an ideal solution for adding sophisticated, dynamic movement to any modular system.

Steps features six programmable stages, each with a dedicated slider, button, and CV/gate I/O. These stages can be grouped together by patching into a gate input, which automatically chains all subsequent stages into a single, multi-segment function. Each stage can be set to one of three modes: Ramp, a classic linear segment; Hold, which sustains a voltage for a set duration; and Step, which creates a quantized voltage level. This allows for the creation of complex ADSR-style envelopes with multiple peaks, looping LFOs with user-defined shapes, or precise voltage sequences. With a duration range from a snappy 1 millisecond up to a lengthy 16 seconds per stage, the creative possibilities are nearly endless.
