StereoWidth is a plugin that enlarges or narrows the stereo image of a stereo sound. For this purpose, it computes and uses the positions of the sound sources. The plugin provides several display modes to figure out the changes of the stereo image. It also provides an option to get a stereo effect from single channel sound.
Firstly, the position of each sound source is computed from the amplitudes and phases of each of the two stereo channels. Computing the sources position is not always possible but the plugin computes as many data as possible. For this computation, an arbitrary but reasonable distance between each of the two microphones is chosen.
Secondly, the distance between the microphones is reduced or grown, and the new amplitudes and phases are recomputed when keeping the same sources positions. This results on a new signal with a grown or reduces stereo image width.
