The Polyend Synth is a versatile and unique hardware synthesizer that breaks away from traditional keyboard interfaces, offering a grid-based approach to sound creation and performance. Designed by Polyend, known for their innovative hardware instruments, the Synth provides access to a diverse array of synthesis methods and performance tools within a compact desktop unit.

At its core, the Polyend Synth is an 8-voice polyphonic instrument capable of running up to three different synth engines simultaneously across its expressive 5x12 grid of velocity and pressure-sensitive pads. This allows for the creation of rich, layered textures and complex sonic landscapes. The instrument features a wide palette of synthesis types, including virtual analog, FM, wavetable, phase distortion, granular, sample playback, and physical modeling, offering immense sound design possibilities. Each engine comes with its own set of parameters, often including dedicated envelopes, LFOs, and filter sections, providing deep control over the sound. The intuitive interface, featuring a combination of a clear LCD screen, touch-sensitive encoders, and dedicated buttons, aims to minimize menu diving despite the depth of features.

Beyond its synthesis capabilities, the Polyend Synth is designed for dynamic performance and creative workflow. The unique grid layout can be configured in various ways to suit different playing styles and can be intelligently quantized to selected scales, ensuring musical results. Features like Chord mode, which automatically generates chords in the chosen key, and Follow mode, which adapts the grid layout to played chords, further enhance playability. Each of the three active synth engines can also have its own independent arpeggiator or a simple 64-step sequencer, adding rhythmic and melodic possibilities. The built-in mixer with send effects (modulation, delay, and reverb) allows for further shaping and spatialization of the combined synth voices. With its focus on immediate interaction and a wide range of synthesis engines, the Polyend Synth is a compelling instrument for both studio sound design and live performance.
