The Behringer UB-1 MICRO is a portable, monophonic analog synthesizer that utilizes a sound engine based on the 3396 and 3397 analog chip designs. These circuits, historically used in the Oberheim Matrix-6 and Matrix-1000, provide the core for the unit's dual digitally controlled oscillators (DCOs) and 4-pole low-pass filter. Despite its sub-compact footprint, the device offers a complete subtractive synthesis signal path including a sub-oscillator, noise generator, and dedicated ADSR envelopes for both the VCF and VCA sections.

The hardware interface features 16 touch-sensitive capacitive keys and a high-contrast OLED display for parameter editing and preset management. Modulation is handled by two multi-wave LFOs capable of affecting filter cutoff and oscillator pitch. For rhythmic applications, a built-in arpeggiator provides three selectable patterns and a hold function. The unit includes 32 onboard preset slots, which can be managed, backed up, or expanded using Behringer's SynthTribe application.

Designed for mobile setups and space-constrained studios, the UB-1 MICRO is powered exclusively via USB-C. This connection also provides class-compliant USB MIDI for integration with DAWs and mobile devices. A 3.5mm TRS MIDI input allows for connection to external hardware controllers, while audio monitoring is handled via a 3.5mm stereo output.
