A lot of free spring reverb plugins basically just sound like slapback delays, but this one is actually pretty authentic (i.e. the reverb tail is pretty diffuse). It's not super versatile, but that's just the nature of spring reverbs, and the included tone-shaping options do help a little bit.

Incredibly versatile overdrive pedal due to the attack knob, which allows you to boost the gain while taking out some of that Tubescreamer-like boxiness.

This plugin does one thing (emulate an MXR Phase 90), but it does it very well. Even though it's a one knob guitar pedal, the added P45 and vintage toggles, as well as the dry mix, make it surprisingly versatile. Also sounds quite faithful to the original unit.

A really easy to use mix-checking plugin for making sure your songs sound okay coming from e.g. a car radio. The presets are very helpful, I just wish it had a studio monitors simulation and some different headphone models.

Docking a point for very occasional stability issues, but this is a really smooth-sounding plate reverb that you can make brighter without sounding harsh. The GUI is nice and big on modern setups, and I've got my fingers crossed that VoS uses it as a model to update their older plugins, which can often be a bit small and hard to read.

A free emulation of the Maag EQ4 that's even better than the paid Plugin Alliance version because of usability improvements like automatic gain matching. It doesn't work on everything due to its fixed EQ bands, but I love using it on electric bass.

My favourite of this developer's free offerings. Aside from looking nice and clean (I'm sure smarter people than me know the actual unit this is based off of), it's incredibly simple to use and very difficult to make it sound bad. I like to use it on guitars and there's minimal pumping etc. even without much tweaking.

A nice gentle compressor that's really easy to use. My only real issue with it is that adding makeup gain causes the meter to bounce around above 0dB, so it's a bit difficult to tell how much gain reduction is actually going on. The interface is clean, easy to read and pretty self-explanatory, so you can get started pretty much straight away. I also recommend the developer's other plugins, especially their RLC79 compressor.

A lush, 80's style rack reverb that doesn't use a lot of CPU. I'm not sure the developers claims on CPU usage are 100% accurate, but it's still very much suitable for live use.

A very subtle phaser effect. The interface is lovely, but there are other free phasers that are much easier to dial in: Blue Cat Phaser, Adam Szabo Phazor and MPhaser.
