I have been trying for some time to complete a VSTi library that spans across many instrumental genres other than the typical bass/drum/synth/keys VSTis. But I had practically given up on ever finding a realistic sounding woodwind instrument.
For the most part, finding a good woodwind emulation (whether hardware or software based) has been a feat in itself. Toy sounding patches have led us all to resorting to sample CDs of previously performed riffs.
Even then we find that we can't be creative due to the fact that the sample CD is comprised of riffs and loops as opposed to one-shot high quality sounds.
---Enter the TubiLeSax---
I had a specific sound for a project that I wanted ala Candy Dufler and Prince and other RnB soulful sounds. I went on the hunt and stumbled on TubiLeSax. I listened to the demos and thought, that this is surreal. Especially for the price of $29.99 (when I bought it from DashSignature).
You really have to get the demo and listen to the .mp3 to witness for yourself. This is by far the most realistic sounding sax emulation, I have ever used.
It sits very beautifully into a project mix, and is not tainted with verberation pre-processing. You can add reverb etc to taste.
The "Performance", "Chorus", "Body" and "Reverb" parameters give you vast control over how your particular sax patch will sound.
They recently added a Baritone Sax preset which really added to the preset capability of this product.
For users that are stuck on appearance, TubiLeSax is constantly expanding their skins for you to choose from. But trust me when I say that when you use this and set it in a mix, looks won't even matter!
As far as stability. When I first used it in Sonar, I had initial crashes, but WilliamK sent out a patch immediately to address my issues. It's been 200% stable since then. BTW I still use WinME (so XP should not be a problem at all).
As mentioned above the support and value for price are primo.
