Surrealistic MG-1 Plus Synthesizer

I was first introduced to Cherry Audio by searching for high quality synth emulations and came across their Surrealistic MG-1 Plus (love the Surrealistic name). Just seeing the image of your synth brought back such fond memories of high school as my piano teacher had just one Realistic Concertmate in the class. Since I previously had this teacher for drums and guitar class, he knew me quite well and assigned the only synth to me!!!! So after I snap back to the present time... I had to download this immediately!!.

Though I don't have the hardware on hand to compare it to, and had to rely on my fading memory.... although clicking the New button and starting from scratch took me back to the joy of playing my first synth!!!! I thought it was absolutely amazing!!! The sounds are so rich, deep and expressive. Love how every knob and switch is MIDI Learn capable! I can't believe they are giving this away for free!!!!!! Thank you Cherry Audio.

DCO-106 Virtual Polyphonic Synthesizer

I first found out about Cherry Audio when I came across an article about their free VST Surrealistic MG-1 Plus (which is awesome by the way... but you can read about that on that page). Then I noticed they made a Juno-106 emulator and immediately downloaded the demo. Since I own a 106 I wanted to compare the software to my hardware. The sounds on its own were amazing, but it wasn't until after I connected my own Juno-106 and sysex my presets that I was completely blown away!!! Listening to my own basic to weird creations coming from their DCO-106 was just insane!! Could not believe how incredibly close (if not spot on) the sounds were side by side!!!! Naturally it only took a moment to click the BUY button. Then I noticed the price.... It felt like I was stealing!!!!! Highly... highly recommended!.

The Casio CZ-1 was the first synthesizer that I purchased, which I still own and utilize to this day. I don't know why but I always seem to be searching for Phase Distortion VSTs. So after adding Algo Music's CZynthia and Phadiz, as well as reFx's PlastiCZ and Kriminal's CZar to my collection, I needed to find more. Not that I disliked any of the previously mentioned emulators, as they each have their own variations and unique process of PD, I just wanted to find more. Unfortunately the site provided here is no longer valid, but after a bit of searching I finally found a version on this VST site in Russia : http://cjcity.ru/soft/teg-artphase.html .I not sure if this was the latest version, but I am so glad I found this one.

Artphase has certainly captured that PD feel that I love! I have created some very interesting presets ranging from fat wet reso basses to nice soothing pads and classic synth FX. Patch editing is quite easy, but be sure to check out the multiple layers on the Envelopes A/B, Modulation and Effects windows. It has the same selection of waveforms as the CZ as well as the two oscillators (or lines). The Ring Modulator has some nice variations/combinations applying to the lines 1/2 - A/B, the mix between and the filter. Great delay and chorus features creates a wide stereo feel with sweeping pans! Even if you are not a big fan of PD synths, I would still highly recommend it.

It is really a shame that Spacewindow is no longer in operation (please inform me if I am wrong) as I found this to be a fantastic PD synth and would really like to see what else they had in the works.

I though this was a very nice emulation of that classic 80's synth sound! The GUI is simple, yet very effective as everything is right in front of you for easy editing. Nice array of presets (64) expresses the capabilities of versatility of this synth... at the very least giving you a good starting point for your own edits. I only wish that the "Env 2" delay was actually a delay and didn't cut off the filter ADSR, but yet still produces a nice effect.
