A while ago, I've posted a little case study with Parawave RAPID. That was basically just some experiments, to check out whether I can create the sounds I'm currently obsessed with. One User reminded me now, that I've promised to publish the sounds that I've used in the case study ;-)

1.) to get you all on the same page: This is the case study again
https://soundcloud.com/p-e-t-e-r-h/para ... 01/s-zyMGF
2.) The collection of patches is attached to this post
3.) Please keep in mind, that for using the Mellotron Choir Patch you have to install my "Test Extension"
Please download it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5g90t7uz6uzh1 ... 1.zip?dl=0

Finally I want to add, that the case study track also uses several other fx plug-ins. there's for instance some stereo-width fx that help to create even more width. But the base sound is RAPID only. Enjoy and have fun. If you like the sounds, just let me know

Talking about obsession for certain sounds: I think you can get what I mean, by the track I'm currently working on...sorry no EDM...more weird freeestyle Electronic: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=500168

Rapid needs better preset management. With the amount of today's plugins and presets, simple long lists for categories like "ARP" "LEAD" are not helpful. Also, the expansions don't even get incorporated into the main categories' list. You have to select that expansion and you can only explore the presets in that expansion.

It's like NEXUS's preset management but worse. And that says a lot.

Unless I'm missing some feature...

Post

Rapid does not have a preset search, and that's odd.

All synths do need a better management system and the only solution is dynamic categories (defined by multiple parameters like ("tag=bass" OR "name=bass") AND ("tag IS NOT factory"). Something similar with Apple's implementation of smart playlists in iTunes or dynamic playlists in rekordbox.

When I open a synthesizer´s GUI I immediately look for the INIT preset...

From the smiley I gather you are one of those superior human beings that don't use presets. Some people use only presets, some people tweak existing presets, some people like to make "performance" presets (on the complex side of things, morphs with macros assigned) and some people use all the above to simply get the work done until deadline. It's the same way as using a DAW template: you always need that set of summing busses, few empty sends, the drum elements tracks and instruments tracks. Why make them every time when creating a project? Luckily the Universe is not spinning around you.

A valid objection. Have also thought about this. The current system is more like "patch in a bank" approach and was the easiest way to create a minimum effort system. Not perfect, but good enough for starters. To be honest, I find tag systems a bit troublesome. Defining vague tags for every preset is very annoying for creators. So a filter system is more likely. Something like "list all bass", "list author" or "XT".
Some things were planned, but had to be discarded - until a later time. For example: A search bar and favorite function is noted. These things are considered for versions after the next update. The new GUI functionality is a kind-of foundation for all these features that need more space in the UI.

@Development:
Yes the next version will come! I'm sorry that it's a bit delayed. Miscalculation of effort is a prominent issue in software development :)

It would already help if sound designers gave their patches meaningful, informative names 8) U-he patches for instance often have weird names that don't tell me anything.

What helps a lot is being able to mark favorites and hide all the rest.

Can we get a hint of any new feature(s) that might be added for next time? On your 'Feature Roadmap' in the 'undecided' section I'd like the granular oscillators added. 8)

"tags" as a simple list in the comments field, not a "pick & click" selection from a ever growing tag cloud. The comments field already exists. The user could write there a simple set of tags: "bass, dubstep, bright, mono, glide". The dynamic filtering could operate on preset name, type, author and comment fields.

Changes in GUI would be minimal if you place a "new dynamic list" menu entry in the existing "new" menu, and the parameters selector as a pop-up the same way "edit preset information" pops up.

I'm currently obsessed with the ultra-clean but nevertheless ultra-wide "bassish" sounds. And I figure that RAPID just offers the ingredience for it. Accompanied by some mixing tools it provides for the perfect base sound to work with...Tremendous beast that RAPID is. If you like I can share my presets for this little case study. Just let me know
yeah please give us the presets please :3

The next version will mainly contain the new GUI system and skins. But shortly after that, definitely an FX update with the already mentioned Glitch, Pitchshift, Tonal Delay and maybe another multiband "thing".

Interesting idea. Would be an easy solution, since comments are part of the "preview" anyway. So, it would also be fast enough for a search. Thanks for the suggestion.
