For those who, like me, sometimes want to be inspired, or surprised, at the cost of pushing the right button [smart]. We all can create drumkits the traditionnal way, and I've done it many times with StiX , and numerous other drum machines, but this is something totally different.

They all sound very similar.
You should check out Atlas from Algonaut if you need endless kits in no time with the sound you want.

Totally different machines. Atlas only deals with samples, and the parameter edit seem very limited (are there any btw ?) They say on their site that 'June – Atlas v1.0 released with a sample map and drum kit generator unique to the industry.' I don't know if the sample map is unique, but it's brilliant, however StiX had the drumkit generator two years before, since the very beginning and version 1.0 actually.enCiphered wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 10:11 pm They all sound very similar.

StiX can do analog, FM@audiorate, RM, AM, Cross synthesis AND samples , and you have more than a hundred parameters to taylor each sound, and real time mangling and p.lock parameters. It also has a sequencer. A very advanced sequencer.
But there's more : Like I said in the video, I only used StiX v1.0 sounds to make it. But nothing prevents you to import thousands of your custom samples into StiX to increase the sample content. Your custom samples will be automatically incorporated to the automatic drumkit generator process. As will the new drumsounds coming in StiX v1.5.
So, very different units, like I said, and both can be usefull. I might redo another similar video later this year that will use augmented content when time allows.

btw the idea is not to generate 50, or maybe even one among 50 if you're lucky, perfect drumkits, but more the basis of an interesting drumkit that you could not have created intentionnaly with the traditional method (changing and choosing carefully sounds one by one). And then changing the not working sounds, and possibly editing/tweaking the winners so that they are perfectly adapted to the current project.
For me n° 14/18/25/26/35/39/46 were inspiring. But other people might prefer other kits.
Btw : Are there hw drum machines that can do this ? I don't know any, but I don't know them all.

Whats this? Someone mentioning Atlas? Allow me to join in!
Yeah stix looks cool. As you say, definitely not something we are directly trying to compete with. Our vision for Atlas is to keep it to using the users samples, but just make it SUPER easy and inspiring to use. We did launch with only a few controls, but at v1.4 now all the essential tweaking controls are in there.
Bear in mind half the magic of Atlas is that it can figure out the categories of drum samples you load in to it automatically, which is how it is able to put kicks, hats, claps etc in the same spot each time you hit 'new kit'. Im not aware Stix is able to do that and would be far more manual.
Stix does have an advantage on Atlas with a sequencer...but not for long....

Did you watch the video ? Or just read the trhread ? StiX has AI assisted drumkit creation : A Kick will remain a KIck, and an HH an HH.timnoric wrote: ↑Tue Jan 29, 2019 9:14 pm

It ALSO has complete random Kit Creation btw, for those who enjoy fsu experiments. Sometimes you just desire less intelligence, and big surprises.

Sure, just add analog morphing oscillators, Sine + wave shaping, FM@audiorate, CroSs Synthesis, AM, RM, Multiwave LFO's, 3 Adsr with mult/div and slopes, special R-Clap envelopes, many unique modulators, Matrix modulations, custom macros for each sound, Analog modelled Zdf filters, the analog Modelled effects, configurable output topologies to emulate certain circuits like Tr-xox snares & analog cymbals etc.
All that (130 parameters) you can combine for each of the 10 drum sounds. Fully automatable with midi Cc/
There are also many presets for : Global, Drumpads/drumsounds, Drumkits, Patterns, and Songs. So it's a whole ecosystem, and you cann mix/match presets of each category easily. And a preset manager with multiselection, multicriteria search to find the right drum or the right Break pattern in no time, and batch export any combination of preset types, or batch import samples, with batch tagging (but this part is manual, as opposed to the brilliant auto-categorisation of Atlas.)
And yes, there's the sequencer, and it's tied to the Synthesis engines (in both ways) with micro positionj, Per step P.lock parameters/divisi/GateTime etc. I think it's possibly the most advanced XoX sequencer ever created.
And yes, StiX is evolving too. Version 1.5 has just been released.

MicroTonic is really cool. It has a special 'unique' sound.gentleclockdivider wrote: ↑Tue Jan 29, 2019 9:57 pm Microtonic , patternarium

I was thinking about making a video about creating your own patternarium in StiX effortless with the sequencer lines and pattern randomizers, together with the auto drumkit creation. Maybe I'll make it when times allows.
