The mind? If I take Sonar(you could use any platform) I can have so many different types of synthesys going at one time from sample sets to z3ta and add some fm7 and tassman. Once you mix this all up and add effects automation it's almost as if the platform itself is the most powerful synth in the world. Then add in a powerful audio editor to manipulate even further and you have at your fingertips what is to me at least just that. While this is a mix and match scenario it is ultimately to your own taste with each element playing a part.
