Out of curiosity, has anyone tried the Chase Bliss/Meris collab, CXM 1978?

A friend has one that I played with for a bit but I was pretty disappointed. It doesn't handle hot signals well and clipped a lot when I tried to use it with synths and drum machines. A shame since I really love my Chase Bliss Preamp mk2.

Damn, that is disappointing. I know Warped Vinyl has a low threshold too, so I can imagine. I think Blooper went through several updates before working with hotter signals too.

Looking forward to integrating this:

Ever since switching my audio interface, I feel like I don't need to keep 1U empty just for ventilation in my rack box. But I haven't really felt a strong pull from anything.
There's the TX81Z, which I know I'd like in terms of sound, but probably not control. Novation A-Station does have everything on front-panel knobs, but I'm also not sure I'm keen on getting a synth that doesn't have its own controller/sequencing.
A MIDIVerb or Quadraverb? I know they're classics, but honestly I feel spoiled for reverb already with solid choices in Eurorack and software.

I use mine all the time, it's great. Just make sure the little switches that set the CC offset are fully up or down or you'll get weird, annoying jumps in values and even random floods of MIDI messages when you touch the panel

Thanks for that.

I hate seeing this only because as soon as I saw Justin3am's response (and again I'm familiar with Chase Bliss' limited headroom), I started looking at the BAM.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 12:56 amI ended up getting an OTO BAM for classic verbs and I f*cking love it. If you're looking at the CXM 1978, you should also give the BAM a look if you haven't already.
I already saw one used on offer for $500 before shipping, but I found it new (no tax/free shipping) for $599.
The only thing that would make it easier to justify is that there are no new Hector's (coupled with rack shopping) and I see that Zoia Eurobo (which I just discovered thanks to Vurt) has no news since April 2020.
The only problem is that I really liked Oto Bim too.

I wish they would list what cpu is inside these pedals, looks like the Beebo is linux based, so ARM Cortex maybe? The Zoia uses a DSP chip, the Blackfin from Analog Devices, which is slower but has some advantages probably. For instance, Sequential uses DSP chips from AD as well I guess, for effects and whatnot. Near as I can tell anyway, as they all seem to want to make that info hard to find.

I don't know what this means (I claim complete ignorance here), but for Beebo, I found this: Allwinner ARM Cortex A53, the SOPINE A64pekbro wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 3:02 am I wish they would list what cpu is inside these pedals, looks like the Beebo is linux based, so ARM Cortex maybe? Ok cool, yeah that's what I thought, thx. Seems like the biggest advantage of the DSP chip in thiselxsound wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 3:43 amI don't know what this means (I claim complete ignorance here), but for Beebo, I found this: Allwinner ARM Cortex A53, the SOPINE A64pekbro wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 3:02 am I wish they would list what cpu is inside these pedals, looks like the Beebo is linux based, so ARM Cortex maybe? case is going to be in the area of efficiency. Tho I suspect, Noise Engineering uses the same chips
in all of their VCO's, tho they do it for a different reason, the sound. The Fixed point DSP in the Blackfin produces a different sound in that situation, that NE likes, a sound that is not really reproducible in software because the conversion to Fixed Point calculations would be cpu intensive apparently.
heh sry

FWIW, the TC System 2000 and 3000 were pretty mediocre so I wouldn't expect much even if they do. The difference between those and the Reverb 4000 was huge.justin3am wrote: ↑Thu Aug 12, 2021 6:37 pm Well, I mean there are some really decent modern rack effects, but what kind of price are you willing to pay? I think companies like Lexicon and Eventide have no interest in trying to compete with Behringer for that end of the market, so all you have in the <$200 price range is the Virtualizer. Maybe Behr will start doing more rack effects with their TC electronics IP.

Yes, that’s what I thought. I don’t want to pay much more than the prices the quality pedals go for, so maybe £500 max, ideally far less. Seems to me that the vogue for top down ‘performance’ live jam videos with people wiggling controls means the rack probably isn’t coming back for that market. I just had to get a rack for mic pres so the chance to save some space and offload expensive dsp to external gear had me looking into that stuff. I may just pay the Heinbach hipster tax and get a Quadraverb and possibly a TC D Two as well.justin3am wrote: ↑Thu Aug 12, 2021 6:37 pm Well, I mean there are some really decent modern rack effects, but what kind of price are you willing to pay? Actually another option I’ve just come across is Behringer sell a 84 HP wide Eurorack assembly that fits inside a 19” rack, comes with psu for £80. That opens up more options, not least of which I can get my Boog Model D off my desk.

GAS alert... Anderton's just sent me an email about B-stock and there's some decent reductions in there... Elektron Digitakt for £480, UDO Super 6 for £1756, Sequential Pro 3 for £1186 etc.

Picking up a Dreadbox Typhon for £252. Had my eyes on them for a while and the saving was enough to tip me over the edge.

^^^ Dreadbox Typhon makes some seriously cool sounds. A touch heavy on the menu diving for my tastes, but a very interesting module.
