Running 2066 and have to turn off Multi-core to get stable playback of Absynth 5 for example, otherwise hits cpu wall and glitches audio. Intel I7 + MOTU Microbook II. Running 32 bit cantabile. This didnt happen on my older VAIO with I5, W7 and same audio device. CPU scheduling to Background services like all the old pro audio advice says to use, and buffer at 264 / 48khz. Any suggestions? Would like to have access to multiple cores -- while disabling works, the cpu usage is quite high still on the one core.

Do you have core parking disabled?
If not, this video from Robin at Molten Music Technology covers it, along with other Windows 8 tweaks:

Do you have Windows' power settings on high performance? Check your CPU is reaching its maximum clock speed using Task Manager. Under the balanced power plan, I find that my CPU often fails to respond to increased demand from plug-ins, remaining underclocked.
The background services tweak is bunk, AFAIK.
