Both of the following tunes are FREE DOWNLOADS for ya! Enjoy.

This is an alternative version of a tune of mine which ended up being more popular than I expected. I deleted the previous version from the website, but this one is similar and maybe better even though more minimal. In a few months I'll put back the older version if this one doesn't get any love. But I like it alot. It's probably the first tune I did after I moved into my new home...

Heavy Fluid (Ood Mix):

I composed a weaker version of this tune about 7 months ago. I was tempted to just delete it, but I decided to keep it because it was the first tune of mine where I successfully implemented a musical technique new to me--the fake DJ scratching. It's subtle, but it opens up a bunch of possibilities for future tunes.

Here it is: "BackHanded_ReCourse"

My Feedback On Heavy

Music - 9
Instruments - 10
Performance - 8.5
Mix - 9.5

Overall - 9.25

Comments: Nice big sound on this one. Love the filters on these synths. What am I listening to? Musically, nice and quirky. I like it. Has a bit of an oriental flavor to it. Also, do I hear a heavily processed piano in their somewhere?

Thanks for the honorable review!
I don't work too much on this tune because when I do, my upstairs neighbor complains about the bass (even though I have pretty wimpy monitors :D ).

It's all freeware softsynths, I can't remember which ones, unfortunately. And some of them are pitched down an octave in some sections. That's probably what I did to some of the other regular synths. I'm pretty sure I used Classic Auto Filter also on one part. Some DSK rompler stuff maybe in there too...

And yes, a process piano from some kind of rompler from vst4free.com. It's pretty nice, it's kind of a throwback to 1990s house music. I like it for stuff like this. I forget what it's called. At about 100-150 different VST(i)'s in my collection, I don't remember the names very well. I need to work on weeding it down.

I'm glad you could relate to the tune. You correctly identified pretty much everything. Yes, I like doing some slightly Asian-inspired stuff mixed with hip-hoppish/trip-hoppish stuff. I have about 3 other versions of this tune, but I need to spruce every one of them up before I publish them. But I'm glad you liked it.

It's almost totally mono except for some spots, but I kinda like that shifting minimalism sometimes.

Have a great week. Thanks again.
I appreciate the thoughtful analysis.

Heavy fluid ood, influences from andy stott on the beat??, the slight arabesque/middle eastern slices are nice, would like to hear the beat give a bit of a workout, maybe some change up in someway. Its not till the end that some hardcore overtones come in, which peeks into your tracks which are nice.
Oops, forgot a hearty :D
