Out of curiosity, is this a cpu intensive plugin like Diva? higher or lower or the same... I'm getting overloads testing the beta in Logic 9.1.2 64 bit. Quad core i7 16 gigs of ram. OSX 10.8.5 Yikes... Is this the future?

happy to stick it up on my hosting for download if you like, but you'd need to email it to me. himself AT tomdrinkwater DOT com
Hmmm, try now, I've renamed it to Bazille Green GP.

Enable the Multicore button.

And yes, this is the future.

Er, that helped... So is this about the same as Diva cpu wise or when released? It seems crazy when I load Zebra the sound is so good but the cpu is half of these newer "big ass" synths. Zebra is still the best. I'm still looking for efficiency myself.

got it, thanks! i'll use it for a bit, and maybe try my own tweaks when I've finished the track I'm doing.

so where is the text colour defined? in Bazille.txt somewhere?

Post

For Gearporn skin, all knob text labels are grafted onto the wallpaper itself (me no likey this, Urs!). You can only change the color of dropdown menus etc. That's all defined in Bazille.txt. Compare this one with the default Bazille_gp.txt and you'll see the differences.

ok, i'm getting it, thanks

Urs, with all the new GUI things (10% increments for resizing, etc.), wouldn't it be nice if the resize factor was stored as well when you go "make default"? This is now especially evident as needed with the Gearporn skin (I like it at 120%)...

Generally less than Diva, but still plenty...

Bazille needs judicious use. You can make a lovely supersaw pad in Bazille, but you can do the same thing in Zebra for way less cpu. However, Bazille can do stuff you cannot do in Zebra and at an exceptional sound quality.

You might consider Bazille as a monosynth. And of course, it may not be for you :-)

I contemplate this regularly... When trying other synths. Does it sound better or different enough than "X" and is the sound worth doubling the cpu hit and freezing/creating wav files of the track etc. X is usually Zebra. Sorry Urs.

Ha, no reason to be sorry. Either it is for you or it isn't. Pure matter of taste.

I started getting into Bazille's oscillator over the weekend and today and although none of the sounds are fancy, I came up with three new song ideas because of it. The Bazille sound is a little unpredictable so far, but it does really interesting things. I came up with a sound which functions as a Harpsichord but is distinctly digital. AWESOME! Extremely bright to the point that it completely masks an acoustic HiHat playing at the same time but in no way harsh or annoying.

I feel this synth succeeds in creating the illusion of a digital hardware device as much as Permut8 for example. Digital in a nice way

Well, hehe, Bazille uses about a quarter of the CPU of Diva worst scenario and about the same as Diva's most modest.

Many patches can do well with "HQ" switched off, which means half the CPU.

Well, the GP skin has floating layers and a higher control density. Doing all those labels with Truetype fonts would fry CPUs even more.

However, we'll add more smooth downsampling soon and we'll cache images. The tech is already there but needs to be unleashed and tested.

Saving UI size as default is still complicated. Thankfully we have about all hosts now so we can test this. Unfortunately other pressing isues have higher priority for now, but we'll eventually get there :)
