I just watched a bunch of YouTube videos about Peter Howell and Delia Derbyshire's Doctor Who theme arrangements (my favorites and what I grew up with).
That show had such an influence over my musical tastes. I wish the new series had more inventive and varied music instead of the rather standard orchestral sounding bombastic stuff Murray Gold has done since 2005. I've enjoyed some of his stuff but I can't remember anything after watching a story.
It never really felt much like Doctor Who music to me. Not subtle enough. Which is funny, in a way, since I loved Peter Howell's bombastic incidental music, but it was synthesized and thematic. Murray Gold's isn't really all that thematic, or at least not memorable to me.
