Hello
Grub is the Bootloader that "loads" linux in the case of the receptor.
The error code indicates that there is a problem loading the correct linux config on your receptor.
If you are going to try to change anything in grub make a backup of "boot/grub/menu.lst"
Before you start also backup the receptors hard drive . Here is a Link explaining exactly what grub is and what it does and what you can do to fix problems with it.http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/grub.html if you dont like messing with your Receptors software let someone who knows linux and grub do It for you ,grub can be reinstalled.
Good luck Andy

Hi Andy,

This is way beyond my knowledge. I never had this problem before. I use Digital Performer 9 on a iMac 5.
When I turn on VIP2 it says "Problem Found 34" and press for Support Tool, Support self-test Check All? Press. It runs a self-test, all test then returns "Error 34.

hi
Does the receptor work appart from Showing the error code??
or does it load after the error code.
have you tried opening the receptor and checking that all the conectors are in place especialy the hard drive and front panel connectors.
andy

Post

It loads after I shut down and start up a few times.
I do the support tool check and it stills gives me the error 34

Hardware check gives the Error 34

hi
Open the Vip and check all the connectors are attatched.Front panel ,hdd and anything else you can see.
andy

Checking connectors won't do any good since the boot loader is f$%^ked up and that piece of software needs to be reinstalled. Maybe you can format the drive again (and lose all data stored on it) or indeed make contact with a linux geek somewhere that can reinstall GRUB.

Also out of courtesy plz visit the other topic: viewtopic.php?f=74&t=463923

Hi
The error codes that the receptor generates are not all ways reliable i have myself experienced an error 34 allong with a load of other errors .
These where genarated dur to a bad connection between the Mb and hdd that is why i suggest that you check the cables before going to the next stage.

Hello,

Just to give you all an update on ERROR 34; the Receptor VIP 2 does come on after letting it run. This took about 30 min (every time) (thank you Andy). I am waiting for my external drive so I can back up my drive.
But here is what is going on now, when I save a new setup on the VIP and quit and reopen it does not open up to what I saved (under Favorite & User). Plus the GUI is not showing the column (left side) which shows all the sounds "Favorites" and "User" so I can select it.
I was told that my monitor setting can effect how much is shown, but I only have 2 settings for changing the monitor viewing and it does not change.
Any thoughts or ideas?
I do not know if it is the hard drive or software. I will find out if it is the hard drive once I do a backup; but if it is the software how do I go about getting a clean VIP 2 software? I am told by Plugorama that they have no more techs!
