How do you randomise note length in randomly generated midi?

How to do this, that and the other. Share, learn, teach. How did X do that? How can I sound like Y?

There are a number of VST and max4live riff generators but they all seem to produce fixed note length. I want to be able to produce long notes and chords for pads and drones but of randomised length for my generative patches.

Any suggestions welcome. Thanks

There are quite a few iOS apps that will do that

Some M4L devices:

Max ImproBeat from Max for Live Building Tools allows to select 8 note lengths and vary their probability "weight" (every X beats).

Patter (paid) can vary note length and timing:

Tricky Traps (paid) has 2 devices that allow selecting note in independent "play heads", at least you can add some note length variation:

TATAT lets set random "weights" for 3 note lengths, and MOOR can random note length for all steps, but is monophonic (both paid).

Step Sequencer in Max for Live Big Three can vary length, but note start is grid-locked (seems most M4L sequencers are like that).

If you can be bothered to try out yet another plugin there's MidiMadness, sorry if all you want to do is alter notelength of pre existing MIDI or if MM isn't your kind of random or not random enough or for some other reason not suitable for your use -> https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/ ... -Madness-3

Thanks for the suggestions, I will give them all a go. Thought M4L was my best bet.
There is the note length midi device in Ableton Live but it has no random function. I seem to remember seeing a device that could modulate/randomize parameters on other devices but perhaps I imagined it as I can't find anything.

You should be able to assign LFO and Shaper to the knobs in Note Length, both have some random options (S&H and Jitter).

Thanks. My memory is not that bad then. Will try them out.
