Ableton is SO SLOW at Live development that this will really change nothing for foreseeable future and I mean long long years. If Ableton will make any progress then it will be evolution of Push and completely new products. Maybe Live Touch (for iPads) or something like that.

Why would they kill it.dformd wrote:Suspect I should finally buy M in case they kill it.
Unless you mean they will develop only the M4L version.
Anyway, this seems to me a great news indeed and I don't think is going to be a slow development either.
Now they are going to have a dedicated team just integrating Max into Live and hopefully at the core code level.

you folks love to post baseless claims whenenver stuff like this goes down....
"This means all native plugs will be M4L plugs" -- no, it doesn't.
"this means Max will be discontinued" -- no, it doesn't.
The same thing happened in the Reason discussion -- it was announced they got bought, and suddenly half the posts are "RIP Reason!" -- wtf?
The future will tell, that is all.

Perhaps they will bake it in to justify a v10?
Can only hope there will be an Able10 Live...

I never mentioned Max; I mentioned M; a completely different productmholloway wrote:you folks love to post baseless claims whenenver stuff like this goes down....

I also never made a claim.

I assumed you were referring at Cycling74, and consequently all the derivatives, closing down.dformd wrote:liquidsound wrote:Why would they kill it.dformd wrote:Suspect I should finally buy M in case they kill it.

I also never made a claim.
And you're right, no one is claiming anything but speculating as usual.

Yup; thanks!pottering wrote:Well, it is 25% off right now (until June 13).dformd wrote:Suspect I should finally buy M in case they kill it.
Perhaps it will be updated and available for another 30 years (yes; it's 30 years old), but I find it inspiring, and suspect I shouldn't risk it. It's still quite unique.

No worries; I understand. Actually, you've illustrated part of my concern for M. I highly doubt M is broadly known or used, and has a name that can easily get confused with their main product.liquidsound wrote:I assumed you were referring at Cycling74, and consequently all the derivatives, closing down.dformd wrote:liquidsound wrote:Why would they kill it.dformd wrote:Suspect I should finally buy M in case they kill it.

I just got into the OSX platform and finally using Live 9.7 [from 8.41 XP] and M4L daily.
I'm amazed at the amount of stuff created in Max, and no crashes yet
"M"..... intriguing program.

It's an astute move on the part of Ableton. They have too much investment in the M4L platform to allow anyone else to control its future.
