Hell yes! I think it's silly this isn't implemented. What next, a pattern based DAW that doesn't support REX?EnGee wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2019 9:44 pm The only missing thing is to preview midi files with my chosen instruments. Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

That's what drew me to BWS in the first place.

Nick from Sonic State seemed pretty blown away, and he is generally pretty fair.mholloway wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2019 4:25 pmEvery single article on MusicTech Review is a paid for ad. Personally there are too many weird issues with eh UI, too many inconsistencies, and just plain missing features. So imo the "review" was either a paid for ad, or the reviewer never bothered to actually use the software to make music. Probably played around with Grid and called it a day. But then again its MusicTech and in general they are crap.

To be fair, there is a preview but I only hear a monotonous noise (or could be sine/saw wave) just like in Ableton Live, but it doesn't have to follow Ableton in this!mumpcake wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2019 2:58 amHell yes! Anyway, I also was pleased when I used Live 9 (intro). I prefer the shortcuts in Bitwig though like "q" for quantize and the numbers for the arrow tools (small things like these, that I use all the time).
Still, if I flip a coin, I can be happy with either Bitwig or Live. Both have the best workflow and design IMO. They feel like the mirrorless cameras! Soon they'll make the old DSLR ones obsolete!

and what about the hardware integration, which is better, Ableton has Push2, Bitwig has ... is push4bitwig good enough?

The integration with nektar keyboards is really good. I use my impact lx25+ as my main keys/controller besides the nanoKontrol 2 these days and they both work really good. The 8 pads on the lx25+ are even better than those on the Panorama P4 (which I use if I need more control with Bitwig), so those pads can be clips/scenes triggers. Nothing special or complex to be compared with Push/Live integration, but it is for me the balance between usability and complexity. I use the basic functions 90% of the times, so all those complex stretching ... etc samples manipulations functions I have no use for. What is there in nektar keys is enough for me

Love the Moss Push scripts - the integration is perfect for my needs, and it doesn’t slow down the responsiveness of Bitwig. Push 2 really makes Ableton slow down after you get to a large track count and try to add more effects, much longer wait times. Moss got the graphics looking really good on there too

Oh by the way! Many thanks to Moss for the Maschine MK3 Mikro script for Bitwig I'm trying to get used to such workflow (inside Maschine as well)

Yeah. The SLMKIII Moss script on Bitwig is amazing. I barely have to look at the screen anymore. I just concentrate on music.

He's fair when he's on his own, but when he's talking with a developer of a product, he holds back on any critical analysis he might otherwise have..it's really not in his interest or perhaps nature in the way he interacts with people normally to do this. It's an interview to discover what a product does, and at times Nick does come across as over exuberant with his phrasing, for things which are pretty ordinary... So in essence, I wouldn't read into how Nick reacts, too much..

...Previously I said that I would not be continuing to use Bitwig and would uninstall it. That has changed. Bitwig is my happy place. It’s what I do when I want to experiment with sound design or if I have some crazy idea I want to experience. No, it’s not my ‘daily driver’, and honestly for the music making I do, it’s not even in my top 3. For me it’s an instrument. It’s magnificent digital instrument with few parallels.
The Bitwig team is continually improving this “instrument” aspect of Bitwig and I think that’s fantastic. For it to be a great DAW though, they need to spend some time looking at the old men in the DAW industry. Bitwig is sorely lacking in advanced MIDI tools, Audio Editing capabilities, video capabilities and project navigation (finding tracks, organizing tracks, project zooming, asset management). The “2” next to Bitwig belies an immaturity that is evident in how you manage data. Managing sound though… Bitwig is ace, and nothing really comes close.
Taking a step back and looking at what Bitwig is ‘competing with’, Ableton Live, paints a different picture. Ableton Live is equally deficient in the areas I mentioned, but lacks the modulation/container/MPE workflows present in Bitwig. In that direct comparison I feel that Bitwig is the superior product currently. Compared to FLStudio it’s a wash. FLStudio is a more mature product with slightly better project navigation, fantastic education resources, large helpful community and more fluid MIDI editing. Bitwig’s modulation system is vastly superior and I feel that the overall workflow is cleaner (FLStudio has some deep dark scary places you need to do for things like MIDI CC editing or the terrible audio editing workflow).
As a DAW, Bitwig has sometime to flesh things out. As an instrument or a ‘music environment’, Bitwig is unbeatable...

It's even worse when you are trying to audition drums.EnGee wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2019 7:30 amTo be fair, there is a preview but I only hear a monotonous noise (or could be sine/saw wave) just like in Ableton Live, but it doesn't have to follow Ableton in this!mumpcake wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2019 2:58 amHell yes! I googled once to see if there were any other DAWs that didn't support midi audition of clips. The first thing I came to was an Ableton thread and the people complaining were absolutely brutal. Wonder if its the same group of developers.
