big brothers on and im bored ... on the off chance that it might be generally useful repeated here ...
in the linplug forum Tegmo wrote:Maybe I'm dense, or I was too tired when I tried to do this, but I couldn't figure out how to use RM IV in Tracktion 2. Do you record MIDI in Tracktion and click on the pads in RM IV, or use a MIDI keyboard to trigger the sounds? Create and edit MIDI clips in Tracktion? Anyway to hook RM IV up to a step editor?
youre right in your assumptions about the possible ways to get RMIV to play rhythms ...

(ive assumed minimal knowledge of RMIV / T2 to make this as useful as possible for ANY user ... so if its a bit basic for you please forgvive me)

1 - load up RMIV into your track as you would any other VSTi ...

Image

2a - (PLAY AND RECORD YOUR RHYTHMS LIVE) connect up your usual MIDI input device (in my case an evolution MK-225c) ...

Image

2b - click on the 'linplug' or 'RMIV' logos to flip the GUI over ... from here you can check (and change) which keys will trigger which pad ...

Image

2c - jam on your keyboard according to the pad triggers you checked ... if you now want you can record any MIDI rhythmd you play as you would for any other VSTi (i assume you know how to do this but if not check this thread for a little tutorial) ...

Image

3a - (USE RMIVs INCLUDED MIDI LOOPS) click on the little MIDI icon on the RMIV GUI to switch into MIDI pattern mode ...

Image

3b - click on the folder icon and browse to the MIDI loops included with RMIV ... load one up ...

Image

3c - clicking play you should hear this MIDI loop play the currently loaded kit

Image

3d - if you want to examine the MIDI loop more closely or even edit it to create variations etc you can drag it into the T2 edit page by click-dragging the little 'D' icon onto your track in T2 ...

Image

4a - (CREATE A MIDI CLIP AND ENTER NOTES MANUALLY) check the pads MIDI assignments as in 2b and then just create a normal MIDI clip in tracktion and click to enter the notes of your pattern ...

Image

Image

5a - (USE A STEP-SEQUENCER PLUGIN) load up a VST step sequencer (like stepchild - scroll down to find it) BEFORE and on the same track as RMIV ...

Image

5b - build your pattern in the step-sequencer as per the plugins own instructions ...

Image

... hope that was of some use to you ... any other questions just fire away ...

Hello , Just got my Tracktion 2 bundle yesterday.I want to use the RMIV to create some grooves and drums.I followed your outline (which was excellent)when I reach step 3b my folder is empty. I found the folders that contain the grooves and samples but am unable to open and insert them in the RMIV. Now ,I have had a few issues after the 3 disc installation. One main issue says The RMIV is not operating correctly and may cause Tracktion to become unstable "fatal error".Another one I get says the RMIV is not receiving midi data.I have tried re-installing all discs.I have a Dell P4,3.0,160gb,1mb ram , windows XP home. My sound card is a emu 1820m.I use to run Power Tracks pro Audio 9 without any issues.Any suggestions ? I have contacted Mackie and Lin Plug and am awaiting response.Thank You

Rob,

I love your glowing ovals.

One of these days I'll get a new PC, which will have WinXP on it and I'll be able to load my T2 with confidence. Right now, it's sitting in the box on the shelf.

Also I replied here just to try out the bbcode add-in for firefox. This text should look different.

Great tutorial as usual Rob! But I'm not sure where to look within each screenshot. You should somehow mark the area you want me to look at so it'll be more clear.

Scott, are you using Windows 98? Or even older? I noticed you said until you get XP, but it now apparently works with 98. Sorry, just trying to help if you didn't realize it works now.

Digging up this old thread now that I have T2 installed....

When I try to click the 'D' button in RMIV to drag the midi clips over to T, the computer totally freezes. It's happened now 3 different times.

Anyone else have this problem with their setup? I would really like to make use of the grooves that came with RMIV, but no love there so far.

Who's been playing with the Realtime Priority Mode button? :hihi:
Someone shot the food. Remember: don't shoot food!

OK,

That was it! I also had to kind of 'Hold down' the D button before something seemed to happen and I had something to grab onto.

Thanks for your help.

Right now, just enjoying the RMIV / Amplitube LE combination with almost no hit to the CPU.

I haven't actually tried amplitube much. I really should give that a go sometime. :?

FWIW: The RTPM button can cause issues with lots of VSTi, so it is always a good idea to leave it off unless you really need it.

Thx for the tip I wondered why Amplitube and posifopit crashed a lot lately !
