youre right in your assumptions about the possible ways to get RMIV to play rhythms ...in the linplug forum Tegmo wrote:Maybe I'm dense, or I was too tired when I tried to do this, but I couldn't figure out how to use RM IV in Tracktion 2. Do you record MIDI in Tracktion and click on the pads in RM IV, or use a MIDI keyboard to trigger the sounds? Create and edit MIDI clips in Tracktion? Anyway to hook RM IV up to a step editor?
(ive assumed minimal knowledge of RMIV / T2 to make this as useful as possible for ANY user ... so if its a bit basic for you please forgvive me)
1 - load up RMIV into your track as you would any other VSTi ...

2a - (PLAY AND RECORD YOUR RHYTHMS LIVE) connect up your usual MIDI input device (in my case an evolution MK-225c) ...

2b - click on the 'linplug' or 'RMIV' logos to flip the GUI over ... from here you can check (and change) which keys will trigger which pad ...

2c - jam on your keyboard according to the pad triggers you checked ... if you now want you can record any MIDI rhythmd you play as you would for any other VSTi (i assume you know how to do this but if not check this thread for a little tutorial) ...

3a - (USE RMIVs INCLUDED MIDI LOOPS) click on the little MIDI icon on the RMIV GUI to switch into MIDI pattern mode ...

3b - click on the folder icon and browse to the MIDI loops included with RMIV ... load one up ...

3c - clicking play you should hear this MIDI loop play the currently loaded kit

3d - if you want to examine the MIDI loop more closely or even edit it to create variations etc you can drag it into the T2 edit page by click-dragging the little 'D' icon onto your track in T2 ...

4a - (CREATE A MIDI CLIP AND ENTER NOTES MANUALLY) check the pads MIDI assignments as in 2b and then just create a normal MIDI clip in tracktion and click to enter the notes of your pattern ...

5a - (USE A STEP-SEQUENCER PLUGIN) load up a VST step sequencer (like stepchild - scroll down to find it) BEFORE and on the same track as RMIV ...

5b - build your pattern in the step-sequencer as per the plugins own instructions ...

... hope that was of some use to you ... any other questions just fire away ...
