Its also being EOL'ed. Which is why I didn't mention it.

As far as the ability to convert a JamPack to another format accessible by other software/hardware samplers, I'd be surprised if Apple did that. that's not their MO.

I recall when Garageband was originally released, people were trying to load the included software instruments (the sample-based ones, which were also EXS format) into the real EXS24. I don't think anyone had any luck doing so...

EXS MANAGER is working well with them so that show that they are pure EXS formats

Hmm, that's news to me. Just checked, and it seems you're correct. And I own EXS Manager. Shame on me...

So have you been able to convert Jam Pack 4 or any of the Garageband instruments to another format?

You do not need to convert them, they are on the DVDs :) and they will be install in :
library/application support/garageband/instruments library /sampler/sampler instruments
library/application support/garageband/instruments library /sampler/sampler files

Yes, but what if you don't use garage band or have an apple computer.

Will they load into an EXS compatable sampler on a windows machine?

I doubt it as it is Apple's rather ugly business practice to try to force people to buy their machines.

That is why they bought Logic and dropped PC support.

Think different. Anti big business. Yeah, right.

I dont want to enter in the fight Apple / Windows ;
I am an happy MacManiac !
And what I do with my G5 2x2 can be done only with 3 or 4 PC

if you are clever enought to extract the samples and the exs instrument from the archive on the DVD you should not have any problem

What problems were you having, precisely?
it is not 4400 $ it is either 2900 $ for platinum or 5800 for PRO

A few articulation only !!

I have a G5 2X2 + 3.5 GB 2 satz of 160+250gb + a raid 0 a RocketRaid card and 6 raptor (350 MB/S)

- I have Malloc errors that leads to crashes
- I get pops and clicks
- I get hole in the song if I bounce on my system disk
- I have noticed that the notes on a same program does not have the same velocity curve, some are softer some are louder at an equivalent velocity.
- I have also experienced double attack on a half note of a trumpet
- key switched program are not homogeneous
- Manual : if John Philpit was not there we could had wait a long time to have a decent manual, many thanks to him. When you think I have request to E/W a documentation of the mapping of the percussions for more than a year ; this is non professional ; Hopefully now it is in John's manual.
- I have lost hours of work, now I soon I have done an edit I save (every 5 minutes)
- Each time I load my music templates it takes 7.40 minutes, with JaM Pack 4 i have more instruments and it takes 1 minute (same environment with VSL is 1.30 mn)

The icing on the cake is than I been form E/W forum for this message :

keep it unreal

GarageBand instruments load just fine into the EXSP sampler in Logic Express 7, so I would think they would load into the full EXS sampler as well.

More to the point who the 'feck' are you and why do you want to know?

Well, I tend to disagree, since I can run QLSO Gold on my PC without any problems.... ;)

I use QLSO Platinum ! much more heavy on the CPU as it is 24 bits
I load all the instruments of the orchestra of QLSO Platinum with at least 10 articulation by instruments on my G5 2x2, I can play a full symphony like "From the New World", to do this on a PC you need many many PC !

For the price I paid :
- I want a product that does not crash every 1/2 hours
- I do not was to wait 6 month to have bug fixes !
- I do not want to lose songs !
- When I play c0 on a trumpet I dont not want to hear C0 C0 ....

I have report plenty bugs since last update in june, none are fixed ! no update since
Many user have ask for the QLSO in EXS format; the answer is NO
Many users have ask fixes in QLSO lib none have been done !

THIS IS A SHAME !

More heavy on memory possibly, but not on the CPU; the Kontatk engine processes at 32bit AFAIK, so exactly the same processing will be going on whatever the bit-depth of the samples.

Is that something you've actually tried on a PC?

Have you tried the full version of Kontakt instead of the supplied player, btw? I got the impression the DFD playback was more mature in Kontakt...

not that garageband / exs format is the topic at hand, but im glad i saw it mentioned. i've been waiting for this kind of talk for awhile.

ive been trying to find a way to use the GarageBand EXS instruments in other non-apple sampler apps - maybe even on the PC... EXS manager is the first app I've seen that mentions Garageband EXS support (the EXS format in GarageBand seems slightly different than previous EXS formatted files, like a newer revision or some such).

all of the samplers that i've used which claim EXS support generally crash or won't recognize the EXS files from GarageBand.

unfortunately EXS manager doesn't convert between sampler formats.

does anyone know if there is one of two things:
1. a pc sampler that can read GarageBand EXS files
2. a program to successfully convert a GarageBand EXS file to another more-widely used sampler format

i'm avoiding soundfont conversion because i like having the actual sample files external to the sampler data file.

maybe this topic should be split in to a forum topic of its own?

There was a cover version of "living next door to Alice" (or whatever it was called), where the chorus had the added on sentence "Alice, who the f**k is Alice".
I think that's why he put that comment there.
