Multiple Monitor Setup

I'm thinking of buying this (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/prod ... e=external) from a friend and wanted to know if anyone's used this monitor (or a similar one) with Tracktion. Also, would it be possible to use two monitors with Tracktion? My ideal setup would be to have FL Studio ReWired in running on my current 17" monitor and Tracktion running on this new larger one. Possible?

it's possible - lots of people do that kind of thing with audition, or vst plugins.
T itself doesn't really take advantage of a dual-head set-up, though you may be able to stretch the desktop over both screens, but running other apps in a second window is a snap.

Tracktion will also allow plug-in GUIs to be dragged to the second monitor.. something I often wish I could still do. (I used to use 2 17" CRTs, but have been using a single 20" recently instead)

Does Tracktion automatically know that there are two monitors and it will adjust accordingly? I only ask because I can't seem to find any setting that says like Enable Two Monitor Support.

I do this all the time. I have a Matrox G450 card and I run Tracktion on my main 19" monitor and drag locked plugs to my crappy 15" monitor. Great for dragging files from Explorer into T projects tooplatinumears wrote:Tracktion will also allow plug-in GUIs to be dragged to the second monitor..

Windows should find the extra monitor, and give you options to spread your desktop across them both.. most windows programs can then be freely resized across them both.Spirograph wrote:Does Tracktion automatically know that there are two monitors and it will adjust accordingly? Tracktion isn't a normal windows program (fortunately) so it doesn't play by the rules, but because plug-in GUIs appear to Windows as seperate windows (if you see what I mean) you can put them wherever you want and lock them.. (you can also <ALT>Tab around them, which I find really handy with just the one monitor)

Same setup here, except with two 17" monitors. It is nice to be able to send plugs over to the second.flanneljammies wrote:I have a Matrox G450 card and I run Tracktion on my main 19" monitor and drag locked plugs to my crappy 15" monitor. Tracktion's probably the only app that doesn't force you to buy two for sanity's sake.

To clear up some confusion:
Tracktion version 1.6 only works full-screen on the main monitor. But you can drag VST screens to the second monitor.
Version two will work like normal Windows programs, and probably can be stretched over two monitors.

So if I am to go the dual monitor route, I'll need a new video card. My friend recommends the Raedeon 9200 since it has both VGA input (my old monitor) and DVI input (my new monitor). Anyone have any experience with this card or can recommend a better one?

I had problems with a 9200 on an ASUS motherboard. They didn't like each other for some reason, and it may have been a fluke. I returned it for an 'older', but 'tested and true' Matrox G550 which also features VGA and DVI (plus a DVI-to-VGA adapter, which are usually sold separately).
I like the G550 because it also gives the option to spoof being 'one large monitor' instead of acting as a primary and secondary. That has its advantages but also its disadvantages, but it's also just an option-- you can use the monitors as primary/secondary if you choose.
Won't be playing any modern games with it any time soon, though.

So a quick question......
I'm finally getting around to playing with some demos of all this stuff, and I have a dual monitor setup. I've got Tracktion on one monitor, working fine, and I'm trying to play around with Crytstal on the other monitor. As soon as I click anywhere on the Tracktion screen to do anything, the Crystal window disappears, and is only there is I click on it's filter thingy. I have nothing else open.
How do I get Crystal (or any other soft synth) to stay there?
