i've totally wanted a kyma forever, too...i'm happy with the gear i've got but i feel like the kyma is the missing piece. shame about the price tag, though.

Actually the only fly ive found in the kyma ointment is its relative lack of DSP for the buck.
You will if you make the leap to it find your self very quickly wanting more DSP.
*sigh*
it never ends...........

and only a Virus is a Virus...yeah, and a million other VA:s too...Scot Solida wrote:No, Kyma will not work without the Capybara. That's the DSP unit that gives the software its power.
Nothing does what Kyma does, though you can get lots of things that do a little of what Kyma does. There are lots of software additive resynthesizers out there: Cameleon, Cube, Vertigo...and Max/MSP is similar to Kyma in its "building-block" approach.
I have a Kyma, and it is pretty danged cool. I use it for most of my software synthesis/effects these days. Still, the MP3s on the Kyma site are a bit old, and there is software stuff that can do much of what you hear. However, you get what you pay for, and only Kyma is Kyma.
