..so you can press a key and change between a 'recording' sound card and a 'play back' sound card. Each would be setup in terms of latency for the particular task.

I reckon this is something that people do all the time and it's a long winded task to continually switch between lots of settings/ ASIO control panels just to record another part then listen to it in context of the entire mix.
